Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Relief

There are options for Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) – Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) Relief.  At Piedmont Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, PA in Greenville, South Carolina we take a unique approach to the diagnosis and treatment of CRPS/RSD.   Most offices diagnosis CRPS/RSD based upon relief response to sympathetic block and then focus on symptomatic treatment such as opiates and spinal pumps.  Some more aggressive places also employ IV Ketamine, a psychotropic intended to create amnesia in surgical patients, as it has some unique chemical properties that actually addresses underlying pathology.   In the case of Ketamine however this comes at a cost: in some cases long term brain impairment has occurred.  In Greenville, at Piedmont Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, PA we prefer to both do no harm and to address the root cause of disease rather than just trying to cover up symptoms.   We make use of medical thermal imaging to map and help identify the type and distribution of sympathetic dysfunction and to provide insight into what is generating the aberrant response.   Having accomplished that we can then tailor a treatment program that is intended to provide relief and either reverse disease or retard its progression.  Learn more about CRPS/RSD at piedmontpmr.com.

Sacroiliac Low Back Pain

Sacroiliac low back pain is a common disorder, maybe even more common that degenerative disk disease or sciatica.  Since sacroiliac low back pain is also considered a form of mechanical low back pain it cannot be diagnosed on traditional imaging tests such as Xray and MRI, or even with physiologic tests such as EMG.  In Greenville at Piedmont Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, PA, we use physical exam, functional testing such as Gait analysis, Biodex and Posturography, and Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound to assess for the presence of sacroiliac low back pain and related ligamentous strain.   Once we have identified that your low back pain is due at least in part from sacroiliac involvement we formulate a treatment plan directed toward each factor that contributes to it.   Sacroiliac low back pain treatment requires patience with a long term goal of restoring balance to the pelvic ring.  Learn more about sacroiliac low back pain and treatment options at piedmontpmr.com.

Migraine, Mixed Headache, and TMJ

Finding a doctor who will help you to identify all your headaches from migraine, mixed headache, to TMJ can be a challenge.  Many people however travel to Greenville from surrounding areas such as Spartanburg, Anderson, Ashville, and Hendersonville for just that purpose.  In reality most people with chronic daily headaches such as migraine, mixed headache, and TMJ have numerous types or sources for their headaches.   Others include sinus, weather sensitive, stress, postural mechanical, cervicogenic (arising from the neck), and vasomotor (involving the autonomic nervous and vascular systems).  Fortunately there are many treatment options for migraine, mixed headache, and TMJ, as well as other headache types.   And while medications help, treatment directed toward the root cause of each headache type can lead to long term, lasting relief.  Learn more about migraine, mixed headache, and TMJ at piedmontpmr.com.
